Flashback

I am not too sure if anyone reads these blogs . If you, by chance, do,. You will note that my Saturday blogs, if written, will be flashbacks to my earlier years. I hope that's okay with both you readers.

FIRST FISH

I didn't fish much growing up. I can remember every fishing trip my dad took me on. (two). They were for catfish or buffalo. They involved worms or stinkbait. My Dad had to work six days a week so there wasn't time for fishing. My first fish was caught when I wasn't on a fishing trip. I was picking strawberries to make a little RC money. I had walked the two miles or so to the patch and was heading home on a dusty Arkansas road. I came to a culvert and there was a nice little pool of water. While I looked at the water a fish came up and grabbed a grasshopper who had mistakenly landed in the pool. My ten-year old mind concocted a plan. I had some string in my overalls pocket. It would be my line. I had a sharp knife and cut a nice little green pole. No Cork. I needed a hook! There it was on my overalls, holding up one strap. A big old-fashioned safety pin. I tied the pin to my string tied to the pole. The tobacco spitting grasshopper was easy to catch. I dangled that grasshopper down to the water and WHAM! That perch hit it and I swung it up on the road and could not believe what I had done. It was a thrill beyond belief. I don't know how big he was but in my mind today he was big! He went in one of my overalls pockets and I headed home with RC money AND my first fish!Yesterday I watched boats streaming up and down the highway. Most of them cost more than our car. They were waving fishing poles ,etc that cost hundreds of dollars. Fishing today can be very expensive. Did any of those guys and gals have more fun than I did that day at a culvert on a dusty road in Arkansas?I doubt it.`"Simon Peter said to them,'I am going fishing.'.They said to him, 'We will go with you.' " John 21:3.
