The Muse is Loose

In my last two years of High School I had a great job. It was from 5:30 - 7:30 PM operating the switchboard for Southwest Times Record newspaper in Fort Smith, Arkansas. When things were quiet at the board I could do my homework. When I arrived at 5:30 a few men in advertising were usually still around. In an hour or so they would be gone. Sometimes I was there in that huge, first-floor, open room; with desks everywhere;alone. The news reporters and editors were on the second floor. The typesetters were on the third floor. Printing press was in the basement. O yes, there was one special office in the corner. Glassed in. It was the office of the Publisher, Donald W. Reynolds. Sometimes he and I would be the only ones on the entire floor. We were running the paper! I never spoke with him very often. Sometimes he would come and leave a message as to where he could be reached, but our conversations were few. He was The Big Boss! I really didn't know how big until a few years ago. In 1993 the football stadium for the University of Arkansas at Fayetteville completed a $110 million dollar renovation. The stadium was then re-named the Donald W. Reynolds Razorback Stadium! He was a graduate of the University of Missouri. I would guess a sizable donation was given to U of A for that re-naming. Further research has revealed to me that Donald W. Reynolds owned more than 100 businesses when he died. One of the more interesting items was that he was in charge of the Pacific and London editions of "Yank" which was called "the soldier's newspaper" during World War II. His charitable Foundation is helping many causes today. I worked for The Big Boss! I have worked most my life for The Big Boss. He has controlling interest in the world. His charitable work encompasses the globe. His office is also "glass enclosed" for he can see us all at work or at play. He has a retirement plan beyond belief! Furnished housing forever! The only catch is this: You have to be an employee. You have to work for Him and be on His payroll. There is no other who offers so much. There is no other who is so rich! The Big Boss!
