Ahab, son of Omri, was king of Israel.
His reign was filled with evil; his wife was Jezebel.
The two, once teamed together, surely were a curse.
It's difficult to judge today which one of them was worse.
Ahab was a fighter, a mighty warrior he.
When he took to battle it meant victory.
He pushed his borders outward; took all the land he could,
His plan was working well for him, like Ahab knew it would.
But close to home a vineyard did not belong to him,
Though offered money or some land , Naboth refused them.
The spoiled king went home to pout, he wouldn't eat his meal.
He told his wife of Naboth who wouldn't make a deal.
"Get up and eat", his wife spoke out, "Start acting like a king!
Give me a chance to do some work and you'll get everything!"
She set a trap for Naboth. Two men were paid to lie
And say he cursed the king and God, and for that he would die.
They dragged poor Naboth out of town because of what was said,
And there the people stoned him until Naboth was dead.
The word came back to Jezebel; her evil plot succeeded.
Now the vineyard could be his! To him it would be deeded.
On the scene, ELIJAH! God has words to say:
"I'm going to bring disaster, your house I'll sweep away,
The dogs will eat your children. They'll die there in the street,
Buzzards will consume the rest, what the dogs don't eat".
There was no other like him; evil through and through,
Jezebel encouraged him to do the bad he'd do.
Elijah's message frightened him, he wore a sackcloth gown
And meekly prayed and fasted before his own home town.
Word came to Elijah, " Have you seen the change in him?
Judgements still will come, as said, but I will delay them."
Ahab died in battle. His blood spilled to the sand.
"Every man to his town; everyone to his land." ((I Kings 22:36)
What was the fate of Jezebel? bad, to say the least!
They threw her from a window where she would be a feast
for dogs to tear and mutilate while she lay on the ground.
Her skull and hands and feet were all that later could be found.
When we all get to heaven, don't look for Jezebel.
God has made a place for her. The Bible calls it ...HELL!
