Ann has me dusting this morning in the Texas Room before we leave for Comfort. She and Laura will be bringing Calvin and Emily back tomorrow evening. Dempsey and I will come sometime Saturday. Dempsey is waterboy again this year for the Comfort Bobcats.
While dusting I came across an old bottle of Hadacol. Do you remember Hadacol? I remember it very well. While in high school, and working part-time at the Fort Smith Times Record,a Hadacol salesman came in to put some personal testimonials in the paper about this miracle product. He was needing one more testimonial and picture. He would pay $5.00 for such a testimonial. I said, "I'll do it!". He asked, "You ever drunk Hadacol?". I said, "Nope, but I have read a lot of the testimonials." The guy said, "Okay". I guess he was in a hurry to get back to Louisiana. He took my pic and I began writing this "before and after" ad. I proved it was even good for teen-agers ailments! I received the $5.00 check and after deciding my ad shouldn't be run in Fort Smith, the salesman hit the road. That was easy money for a high school boy! Months later I ran into someone from north Arkansas. He grinned and said, "I saw your Hadacol ad. It is amazing what it did for you." It did a couple of things: "It made me aware of how testimonials may not be what they claim when money is involved. It also made me some quick money for being untruthful. This is the truth: I have never had a drink of Hadacol. On the box it says: iron..106 mg; manganese..90mg;calcium..250mg;phosphorus...250mg AND (are you ready for this?) alcohol... 12%.! Maybe THAT'S what made Hadacol so popular!
