It was a tragic year; Mephibosheth was five.
His household went to battle, none came home alive.
Philistines pressed upon them, three sons of Saul died there.
The fight was fierce around them; They didn't have a prayer.
One who fell was Jonathan, Abinadab died too,
Malki-Shua was the third.Their bodies were run through.
Saul called upon his aide when wounded critically,
"Run me through this moment so they cannot kill me!"
The aide just could not do it; not even if he tried,
So Saul fell on his own sword. In such a way he died.
Shaken by the battle, and Saul dead in the strife,
His aide fell upon his sword and ended up his life.
Philistines came to strip the dead and there discovered Saul,
And his sons; and faithful aide; they hung them on a wall.
Valiant men who heard the news traveled in the night,
Stole their bodies from the wall, to do what they saw right.
Word came back to home that day that Jonathan was dead
Mephibosheth's caring nurse took the boy and fled.
An accident occurred that day, the Bible does not tell,
Except to say his legs were hurt in some way when he fell.
Some years passed for Israel; David was now king.
He's just and right and God has blessed his reign in everything.
One day he asked, "Is one still left to show my kindness to?
For Jonathan, my dear friend's sake; his love for me was true."
" There is a son of Jonathan; he's crippled in both feet."
" Bring him quickly to me! at my table he shall eat."
Mephibosheth was brought there. He bowed before the king.
" Don't be afraid. You're safe, young man. Good news to you I bring.
The land once due your father, my trusting friend so true,
Rightfully, by my decree, it now belongs to you."
David then called Ziba, who once had served for Saul,
" Bring your servants and your sons. Go and bring them all.
You'll farm the land; bring in the crops; this young man is not able.
Just as if he were my son, he'll dine here at my table.
David showed a godly trait. His love for God came through.
The Son of David showed the same, He died for me and you.
