The Seven Sons of Sceva

Paul took the road to Ephesus and found disciples there.
They needed his close guidance; he taught with love and care.
The synagogue became a place where listeners could hear
About The Way, but some refused and turned a deafened ear.

He took his followers from that place to a banquet hall
Where daily for two years he taught and spread the Word to all.
God worked His miracles through Paul and people were made well;
Demons dreaded meeting him, he's send them back to hell.

In Ephesus were seven sons; Sceva was their dad.
They drove out evil spirits; at least they thought they had.
To do their job some better they watched the great man, Paul
And once again they went to work...and headed for their fall.

The seven sons soon found a man who was demon-possessed.
They tried their new-found prayer and chant. It seemed to be the best.
"In the name of Paul and Jesus, the one he speaks about,
We command you hear us! Evil spirit, NOW come out! "

The evil spirit answered them .( It may have been a shout;)
"Jesus I do surely know! Of Paul I know about!"
But his next words must have chilled the seven through and through.
" Yes, I know them, of that I'm sure, I don't think I know you! "

"But WHO are you??? Who are you? The other names I know!
There behind you is the door I think you'll want to go!"
The man then quickly jumped on them, and gave them such a fight
They left the room without their clothes; they were a bloody sight!

News of the fight spread all about. Men were filled with fear.
Lord Jesus now became a name the people would hold dear.
Believers came and openly confessed their evil deeds.
Scrolls of sorcery were burned, to rid them of the seeds.

Now the Word spread everywhere. It was their finest hour,
Folks responded as they heard the gospel preached with power.
The sons of Sceva? What of them? The Bible does not say.
I pray they found eternal life and joined up with The Way.

Acts 19:11-20
