Finding What You're Not Looking For

It happened recently. A set of keys for the car had been lost for months. Ann hadn't been driving so they weren't needed. When we needed them again they were gone. We searched the unusual and usual places. We checked at Center Point and could not find them at the Duprie home. They were big-time lost. It would take more than a hundred dollars and some time to get it all replaced. Then they were found, but not when we were looking for them. They were in a "secret" pocket in her purse. I had put them there for safe keeping. Found when we weren't looking for them.
My brother in law, Hershel Garner, leave Monday for Colorado for an elk hunting trip. This is his sixth trip and he hasn't had a shot at one. Six trips. No elk. We were camped in a park in Canada one September and woke up one morning to see elk all over the place. Some of them were giant bull elk with trophy racks. I went outside to take a closer look and it didn't set well with the nearest bull. He lowered those dangerous horns and began coming after me. I ran in the RV and hoped he wouldn't decide to come in. He could have if he had wanted to!
Hershel has had no luck finding a bull elk when he has wanted to. I had no trouble finding one when I didn't want to. That sounds mighty like other times in life. Looking for one thing and not finding it. Finding something but not wanting it. Good luck, Hershel, maybe this is your year. I doubt that I will have a bull elk in our front yard here in Rockport.
" Suppose a woman has ten silver coins and loses one. Does she not light a lamp, sweep the house and search carefully until she finds it? When she finds it she calls her friends and neighbors together and says, ' Rejoice with me; I have found my lost coin.' ". Luke 15:8-10

Dale, I really enjoy reading your little tid bits (memories). When you mention Hershel and places in Arkansas it really hits home.

I am from Rison and a good friend of Hershel and admired Betty so much. I miss her very much and I met you at the hospital that last week she was here on earth. I really did enjoy talking to you. I am glad to see you are putting your stories on paper.
