I fear snakes. I don't like snakes. I don't trust snakes. I think snakes have evil intent. Get the message! I am not a snake hugger.
Ann had me cleaning out a grown up area in the front yard today. One of many, by the way. I knew a snake was lying in wait for me. I just wanted it to strike and be done with his dirty deed. I survived one more time.
This WHAT IF occurred to me while I pulled weeds. That's all it is. Don't look for chapters and verses.
Here is the picture:
God is busily involved in creation. He is into day six. Soon he will mold the Man who will bear his own image. Satan is looking on. He has been banished from the heavens. He is hanging out on this new creation, earth, and watching as God puts it all together. Man is not yet created so there has been no Fall. There is no sin. Satan is bored so he says to God, "Hey, I know we had a falling out but can't you let bygones be bygones? Gimme' a break! Let me do something." "You want me to allow you to help with creation? No way!" "Not a lot" Satan replies, "but let me do something. You gotta have snakes. Let me create snakes. Please??"
God thought for awhile and then said, "All right, you can create all the snakes. But make them nice and gentle and loving. This is to be a beautiful world." Satan is off like a flash, and while God mixes the clay to make a man and add all the unique intricacies that make him different from the animals, Satan is making snakes. Will he hold to his word? You know the answer to that. He makes a giant snake twenty feet long that can crush. He makes another faster than the animals. He puts fangs in others with poison sacs so they can kill in moments. He has snakes in the colors of grass and ground and water. He makes the most dangerous the most beautiful. These horrible, dangerous, beautiful, crafty, deadly creatures are everywhere. God shows up. "How is the snake project?". " Finished! These guys are going to be the hit of all creation. Your Man is going to love them. I may crawl into one myself sometime. Have a nice day! "
"Rescue me, O Lord, from evil men. Protect me from men of violence who devise evil plans in their hearts and stir up war every day. They make their tongues as sharp as a serpent's, the poison of vipers is on their lips." Psalm 140:1-3
