We know Lone Ranger's horse and friend; Silver the horse, and Tonto,
But few of us have heard the name Tisquantum, known as Squanto.
Squanto's life was hard and cruel, captured and abused.
Taken to the English shores, the nobles were amused.
Squanto soon proved them all wrong. They were amazed at him.
This savage from New England's land could soon converse with them.
His value then was seen and soon he sailed the sea
Arrived back home at Wampanoag; escaped and he was free.
Squanto met the Pilgrims first in March of twenty - one.
Without his help this Colony would surely have been done.
He taught them how to catch an eel, and trap the needed fish.
With summer sun and Squanto's skill corn was their tasty dish.
He spent his life in Plymouth land, interpreter and guide.
For sadly, while he was away, his entire tribe had died.
With his presence Pilgrims lived and worked without a fear
They would be killed each time they heard an Indian tribe was near.
A fatal illness struck him down when he was thirty-seven.
He asked the Governor to pray for him that he might go to heaven.
On this Thanksgiving Day before we dig in pronto, (quickly)
Breathe a prayer the Pilgrims met a special man called Squanto.
Happy Thanksgiving to all!
