The headlines screamed out "EIGHTY-FIVE"! We know there will be more
before the smoke has settled down in front of baseball's door.
Thirty-one are all-stars; the most famous name
was an Astro hurler, cinch for Hall of Fame.
No better player ever lived than hustling Red, Pete Rose.
They barred him from the Hall of Fame as everybody knows.
He gambled on the baseball field, sliding in head first.
He also did it off the field. They said that was the worst.
Jose Canseco blew the whistle twenty-years ago,
Baseball didn't listen; there was too much dough
being made by everyone, so no one stopped the show.
Where all of this will go from here, no one yet can know.
"What difference does it make", some ask, to get a steroid shot?
It takes away a level field. To some it makes alot.
Some honest players work real hard developing their skill
While cheaters, skilled, without a doubt, enhance it with a pill.
Barry Bonds, hitting home runs, has caught all the heat,
but other stars, we now find out, just as well could cheat.
Baseball will survive this "mess" to play another day.
Methinks I'll go with apple pie and buy a Chevrolet!
