The Visitor

He came, uninvited, middle of night,
found a banana and took a big bite.
Walked on the counter (wish he were dead)
Ate through metal wrapping Becky's cornbread.

The house violated. He's now everywhere!
I heard scratchy sounds in my favorite chair.
He's now in our closet, maybe the ceiling.
a dozen places, that's the way i'm feeling.

I pulled the spring back carefully
The rat I almost caught was me!
It's set at last. This very night
he'll soon be gone without a fight.

Peeking through the kitchen door like some frightened kid,
prepared to see my bloody foe, thankful to be rid .........
Trap is sprung! Upside down. Once again we're free!
But," there's a problem, Houston," the trap is E M T,

Now the war is on full force. Traps are everywhere.
This guy has got to go and soon. The method I don't care.
Two sticky traps are on the floor where he might have ran.
I failed to give a warning...one of them caught Ann.

Green poison pills are now in place. I know what risk is there.
The smell can last for weeks on end. He could die anywhere.
"Twas' the night after D Day and all through the house
not a creature was stirring, not even a rat." (Nothing rhymes any more)
