Walter Knight

Our dear Walter Knight, former pastor of First Baptist Church, Rockport, went to be with the Lord this morning, January 12. Walter resigned over a year ago because of his failing heart condition. It is too early for me to write a eulogy, but I would like to share a few first impressions.
Walter taught us how to reach out to all people. He loved the young and old, the well-to-do and the neer-do-well. He was quick to respond to the needs of others. He had a boyish laugh that could disarm any tense situation. His personal stories were legion. He crammed a lot of living in the brief years God gave him. He brought new insights to old familiar Biblical stories time and again. His nearly ten years as our pastor were dynamic, successful, growing years, yet he never pressured folks to decision. He was one-of-a-kind. Heaven is a brighter place today since Walter is there. I loved him much as many others did.Our prayers are with his family and the myriads of people whose lives he touched.
