COMPUTER DOWN

Ann and I had gone to Corpus Christi this morning for appointments and to visit a friend in the hospital. We were still there at lunchtime so went to a Luby's Cafeteria. It wasn't terribly crowded and the food was good. As we ate near the check-out desk we noticed a line starting to grow of persons waiting to pay their bill and leave. In a matter of minutes the line stretched the length of Lubys! What was going on? Well, you know the answer to that. The COMPUTERS were "down". I thought back to earlier days and times when that would and could not have been a problem. The cash register was electric but not tied to a computer. Cashiers made change. They knew how to add and subtract. In a matter of minutes today a proficient business became a place of stress and short tempers. Then it happened! The computers went from "down" to "up" or whatever they do. The line moved more quickly and folks were soon on their way back to work or shopping. What if all the computers went down? All across the country? All across the world? We would be paralyzed as a people of this universe. That is most of us would. But out there somewhere on the backroads of Arkansas or Texas some folks would never even knowed it were takin' place. Hmmm. And who has the better life?
