I am not really a very political person. I definitely fit into the independent slot. I vote for a person and not a party. Being in a church leadership position caused me long ago to stay as clear of politics as I could, for most churches have all parties represented in membership.
With that said, I went to a Republican political rally tonight. A first! I also prayed at this gathering of several hundred people on the Lexington. It was an interesting time. I do respect the man who was announcing for State Representative, Todd Hunter. Anyway, I prayed. It was a written prayer for I wanted to carefully choose the words delivered to the Lord, but also to all those people from all over the state. I share the prayer with you.
"O God, our help in ages past. Our hope for years to come. Be thou our Guide while life shall last, and our eternal home."
Lord, as we have gathered in this special place where once the noise of battle echoed, we are reminded anew of the cost of freedom and liberty. We thank you for those brave men who made this ship their home, their hospital, and sometimes their heartbreak.
We thank you for those gathered here who serve in places of city and state government...behind a desk or in front of a gavel. Give them continued dedication and purpose as they seek to make this a better and safer and more productive state and nation.
As Todd Hunter offers himself once again for service as State Representative give him energy, wisdom, dedication, and noble purpose. It is more than a slogan on a coin to say "in God we trust", for our strength even in great diversity of faiths comes because of our faith in You as the Supreme source of light and life. In Jesus name I pray. Amen.
