Bird Migration

This time of year is fun and exciting for birders. It is migration time. Warblers and other birds show up in our yards with beautiful spring colors. To most people they go unnoticed as they quietly maneuver among the leaves and limbs, seeking tiny insects to renew their energy after a long flight over or along the gulf shoreline. Most of them do not stay with us long. They head inland and north or east to spend the summer. Yesterday I saw a northern parula, black-throated green, nashville, and yellow-throated warbler. Each was beautiful in his own way. Their main attraction to the yard is not the food. It is water. They love to take a bath in fresh water. Their baths are physical! They splash and shake with vigor to get washed and dried. Nothing like a nice shower after a long trip. These little warblers are tiny bundles of energy. Each has a place to go and a job to do, although they may have never gone there or done the job! They are truly God's remarkable creations. Take some moments to look up and enjoy the world of birds.
