We have had a couple of decorative bird houses hanging from chains on the patio. They are too small for birds to use. Or so we thought. A pair of wrens began carrying straw and other items to one of the houses. That is nothing unusual for wrens. They are constantly building nests they never use. This time it was different. The little pink and blue house became a place of activity the last few days as both parents went in and out with various kinds of insects hanging from their beaks. I took a flashlight and shined inside when they were both away. To my surprise there were FOUR gaping mouths waiting for a morsel. This is a very small one-bedroom house with six residents! Actually Mom and Pop don't even stay in there. In just a few days the little ones will be gone and there will be the " empty nest syndrome " for these two parents. They have a solution to deal with it. They will simply find another house, build a nest and have another family. That's for the birds. Here is your bird verse for today: "Even the sparrow has found a home and the swallow a nest for herself where she may have her young - a place near your altar, O Lord Almighty, my God and my King." Psalm 84:3
