I just passed a man on the road awhile ago. He was driving a neat little convertible. His grey hair was blowing in the breezes. I conjectured: "The poor man is having a mid-life crisis." (He was too old for that). "It's his daughter's car and she wanted him to listen for a noise under the hood." (He was no mechanic!). "He is surprising his wife who has always wanted a convertible." (Of course she is his trophy wife). "He is a car dealer and simply driving a demo."
(He is way off track. We have no new car dealers in Rockport.) "He hot-wired and stole the car."
( No way! He was having too much fun!) "He, he, he..........." and on and on the conjectures and opinions and wild ideas go and grow. Do you ever do such foolishness? I do it quite often with people I do not know and will never see again. I try NOT to do it with persons I know or are mildly acquainted with. What's the difference? With the convertible guy my guesses about him will never be known by him and will in no way affect his life. My conjectures about you can do things as I share them with others. They can turn into innuendos and gossip and painful untruths. I try not to do that about people I know. Would you like to join me? Oh, about that guy in the convertible maybe he was............
