I bought a fishing rod this afternoon at Ace. It was a good deal. I hope I get to use it sometime. As I prepared it for my reel I removed some plastic and paper and there was a warning. ""Warning: this product contains lead which has been known to cause cancer.". The warning wasn't for me, thank goodness! It was only for residents of California! That has puzzled me just a bit. If it is a valid warning, how about the rest of us yokels who sleep with our fishing rods and use them for stirring soup or whatever. Are we exposed or does it matter?
This sent me on a warning search in this "sue you" world we live in. There is a web site called "Warning Label Generator". You can have your own personalized stick-on warnings made under such titles as WARNING, CAUTION, DANGER, THINK, SAFETY FIRST, BE CAREFUL, and NOTICE. Wow, what possibilities! On a baby: "Warning, bouncing this kid on your knee may cause him to throw up on your pants". CAUTION: The veggies from this refrigerator were a different color when then went in. DANGER: "This Bible if read might scare the h---- out of you!.
So I went in search of some real live warnings in sue-you land: "WARNING! THIS PRODUCT CAN BURN EYES" (on a curling iron). "RECYCLED FLUSH WATER UNSAFE FOR DRINKING"(on a public toilet). "CAUTION! HOT BEVERAGES ARE HOT"(on a coffee cup- I guess that might mean cold beverages are cold?) WARNING! MAY CONTAIN SMALL PARTS ( are you ready for this? On a frisbee!) Now this one really is important. It is found in the manuel of a microwave "DO NOT USE FOR DRYING PETS" " Honey, that smells like Poodles. What's for lunch?" Last but certainly not least:"WARNING! Has been found to cause cancer in laboratory mice." On a box of rat poison. Make your own joke!!!
