JEREMIAH

Jeremiah! Jeremiah! Why are you weeping? Writing doom while most are sleeping?
Why must you call for men to repent, acting as if you are one God sent?
Leave us be in our lives of ease, doing and living just as we please.
Jeremiah! Jeremiah! what will words do, but stir up much pain and trouble for you?

Jeremiah! Jeremiah! Please re-read that letter Baruch has scribed. You can do better.
You must not read in the temple that scroll! Your life is ended when those words you unroll.
for the king and his lot will be angered for sure, and you may face too much to endure.
Jeremiah! Jeremiah! Whatever you do. Don't read all those words, even though they are true.

But, my dear friend, you don't understand. These are not things I wrote or that came from my hand.
They're the Word of my God given to me so the Lord may forgive of iniquity.
The people must turn from their evil way and do His commands beginning this day.
Jehudi! Jehudi! Read it to him. May their words cause a fire to start burning with them.

Jehudi read the scroll to the king, and this leader did an unusual thing,
He cut out the words with a scribe's handy knife, and cut short his own impudent life
As he tossed His truth in the winter fire, he heated the wood for his funeral pyre.
Jeremiah! Jeremiah! I see why you cry. Refusing God's way they all chose to die.
