A friend recently wrote a poem about numbers. It was a clever writing, pointing out how our lives are so entangled with them. They start when we are born with weight and length. They continue until we die, and after, with age, numbers of children, grands, etc. Babies have social security numbers. We are wrapped in numbers. Ever heard, "How many did you catch?"; "What did you get it for?";, "How much was it today at the pump?"; "How fast do YOU think you were going?"
Yesterday I made my semi-annual visit to the VA in Corpus where I get what meds I take that are generic. They aren't free, but it saves a few dollars. One med named plavix is costly. They don't have a generic for it. I asked my doctor if it might be available since I had had a recent heart attack and received a stent. He looked at me rather sadly and said, "You don't yet qualify. You have to have at least TWO stents!". It made me want to hurry over to the hospital and say, "Could you feed another one of those into an artery? I don't yet qualify for plavix". I told the VA doc I would try to get by on one right now, even though another one would save me some money. The numbers game. We even have a Book in the Bible called Numbers. There are many significant numbers in the Bible. Three, twelve, 666. and on I could go.
Like it or not we must live and die with numbers. Why don't you sit down with pen and paper and write down all your special numbers starting with your PO or street one? If you can't remember the BIG ONE,( not your age but your social,) you are in trouble! Thanks for spending a little time with me..... "seven come eleven on a rusty dime. can't go to heaven on a watermelon vine". Where in the world did that come from?
