After nine days and over 5,000 miles by air and car we are back In Rockport this Columbus Day. It was a great trip. All we had hoped for and more. The leaves were at their best. The weather was beautiful. Our guide was excellent, and the bus driver never scared me once. He was a nice young man. So, we have seen the cradle of this great country. We sat in a box pew in the North Church in Boston. We visited the towns of Concord and Lexington and could almost see the puffs of smoke from those first battles. We saw the rocky coastline and homes of the super-rich and famous. We visited the small towns and found friendly folks. We saw the studio of Norman Rockwell and many of his great pieces of American art. The leaves? They were all we had hoped for. Reds and orange and yellow and brown and green and all the others in-between. It was a great event in this fiftieth year of marriage. We may do it again after fifty more. Of course, it is always good to be back home.
