When The Game Goes Bad

It is so much more fun to win in football, whether by a point or fifty. It is painful to lose whether by a point or fifty. There is a difference, however. When a team wins or loses by a point a single play can be pointed to and we say "that won the game" or "that lost the game". Neither statement is really true, for there have been maybe forty or fifty or more plays by each team. Each play or defensive scheme is planned to score a touchdown or stop one from happening. Isn't it funny how we forget all those other plays? That one yard gain into the line on second down...no one ever says, "that lost the game" or "that won the game". The truth is that each play is important. Some work and some don't. Athletes are human and they make mistakes. Coaches do too. It is all a part of the game........ but, let the "home" team get beat bad...real bad.... and who is to blame? The COACH!!! or THE COACHES!!! They didn't drop a single pass or throw any interceptions or jump offsides or fumble the ball...and they are to blame! Bum Phillip's boy was a hero as the cowboys swept through the opposition last year. They had a bad game at the end and quickly some began to say..."um. I don't know. He could have done this or that or the other". A new season comes. Good start....then the worm turns. Losses rear their ugly heads. The Quarterback hurts a finger. You cannot throw a football well with a broken finger and tape and the rest. A forty-year old "has been" has it fall on him. A "star" player craters again and goes to rehab. Others are hurt. One big egoist begins to cry he isn't getting the ball enough, though he was dropping half the ones thrown to him." The CRY goes up.... "Fire Phillips! He can't coach!". From hero to goat. The COACH.

It happens in high school too. Our son-in-law's Nixon-Smiley Mustangs came apart last Friday night. They were up against a stronger, better team and they got beat bad! Whose fault was it that tackles were missed and passes were intercepted and balls were dropped and penalties occured? The COACH! He wasn't even on the field....O I can't say that. He was, but the referees ran him off! Such is football, and sports, and politics, and religion. Can you believe GOD is sometimes blamed for our fumbles in life? He is! Nuff said.
