I am embarrassed to admit it but I had never heard of an Okapi until reading the Sunday comics. In "Believe It Or Not" it said: "The first photos of the Okapi living in the wild since it's initial discovery more than a century ago have been taken in the Congo's Virunga National Forest". I had to learn more. I discovered that several zoos around the world have an Okapi. They were known to the Egyptians 2500 years ago! There are pictures of the Okapi and it is a strange-looking animal. It is of the giraffe family, although his neck is not as long. He also looks a bit like a horse, and he has stripes on his legs and hind-quarters that appear zebra-like. When God created this strange-looking animal he must have smiled and said to Himself, "I believe I can do better than this!". (This is not scriptural) His black tongue is so long he can swab out the inside of his ears! His image may have been used to create a mythological animal or two like the unicorn. Anyway, now you know of this critter. I would advise against a photo safari to the Congo for a pic. Better to go to Arkansas and take one of the Ivory-billed woodpecker. Are there animals and birds yet undiscovered? No doubt. There are still places hardly touched by human feet. Maybe a Yeti? Well, not yet----i.
