The Closet

One of the interesting things about old, really old, country farmhouses, is the size of their closets. They are small! Large, walk-in closets weren't needed, for the folks did not have so many different kinds of clothes. They also wore clothes until they were worn out. When did you last "wear out" a pair of pants, or a dress or suit? It is far too easy to buy "on sale" stuff we do not really need. It also seems rather easy as one gets older to "grow out" of clothes. Having experienced all of these events in recent years I discovered my country farm house closet (in the city) could simply hold no more items. It screamed out to me, "I am full! Don't you dare stuff another thing in here or I will throw it on the floor." It had already begun to do just that....... so...
with a full moon lighting up the yard like daytime, and my full allotment of sleep completed at 3:30 I TOOK ON THE CLOSET!!

It was amazing how many items I had and so few I could wear, or would want to wear. What possessed me to buy that shirt? I hate that color! When did I ever wear pants like that? Why do I insist on saving pants I wore when I repainted our storage shed? How do I know I wore them then? The sky-blue color is plainly evident.

So now there is a massive pile of clothes on the bed. They are bound for someone ,somewhere. You might get them at Castaways if you decide to do your Christmas shopping there. Good luck! Do me a favor. Wear them out!
