REPORT CARDS

These words were imblazened on an outside board at one of our elementary schools I pass. "Report cards go home 1-22-09." . A parent or parents are told of this ominous time. Those who care will want to check the progress of a child. Children will wish for a better report, or go home proud of their work and deportment. I don't know if parents still have to sign a report. That may have changed. I hope not.

This week I was once again going through old things like pictures, letters, and such. I came across some of my report cards from elementary days at Cavanaugh, Arkansas; and the sixth grade at Bassett Elementary in California. I am glad I could see progress from the first few weeks to the last. I imagine that was due to two things; a teacher who reined me in, and parents who checked my report cards and let me know what they wanted changed.

I do remember ONE TIME when my card was not good in deportment. I made a really important decision. I knew it was wrong but I decided not to take the card home. I would sign for a parent. That was a BIG mistake, never attempted again. My teacher saw that poorly executed forgery. My older sisters all BROUGHT HOME report cards. My parents knew without an outside bulletin board it was time for reporting. Punishment met and perhaps exceeded the crime. This young forger was reined in early. Thanks Mother and Daddy! You did me a great favor. Have you gotten a report card lately? The BIG one God is keeping is yet to come. How are you doing on that one? God bless.
