Bob and I were sitting in the backyard birding, when a young man walked through the garage and introduced himself. Ann had sent him to us. He was wearing a DISH T-shirt. We soon discovered he was a salesman. I quickly let him know we already had DISH and had used their service for about thirteen years. He began to tell me about DIRECT TV and a great deal they had. They could save me about $300.00. Now I am puzzled. He is wearing a DISH shirt and trying to get me to switch to DIRECT TV! After we talked awhile I found he was also selling CLEARWIRE service for the computer, ( which I also already have). He was a nice young man. I hated to disappoint him but he had nothing I wanted at this time. I thought it was interesting that, had I had DIRECT TV, he would have tried to sell me DISH! In leaving he said he liked DISH the best!
All I could think of was the troubled auto industry. To keep up with the times they have allowed dealerships to become auto supermarkets where one can purchase most any car. So who is saying: "This Ford is better than Toyota"...etc? " This Chevy has features you won't find on a Ford." etc. The salesman becomes a non-salesman. Just a deal closer. Perhaps also a store closer and a company closer. It is also true with refrigerators, washing machines, ranges, etc. Many of them with different names are made at the same factory. A relative who works at one of these plants told me first hand.
Wheaties are still "breakfast of champions". Morton's still pours when it rains, and Campbell's is " M'm! M'm! Good!". IT PAYS TO ADVERTISE. We have always thrived on competition. Maybe that is a missing ingredient in this downturn time. Check the gasoline pumps in a city and most of them match prices by the penny. No competition! I like to see folks offering a product that is special and different, unlike what other brands are offering. Christianity is such a product. And it is free! What a deal!
