I missed a lot being in the ministry most of my adult years. Of course, the financial part was usually less than the town paid for a meter-reader, but now that even has it's rewards. I have lost far less money than many of my friends in this financial crunch. You can't lose it if you ain't got it. A lot of the things I missed really weren't all that important.
A thing I really missed was TGIF. When I could, which wasn't too often. I would take Friday as a day off. Believe me, Saturday and Sunday were work days. Monday was a real big work day, with a paper to send out, hospital visits, calls from members, and associational get-to-gethers with fellow ministers. Most preachers don't have week-ends off. I longed for them. When I retired I started trying to catch up, but couldn't. On the other hand, I have known some of my fellow Bible thumpers who lived by TGIA. That's "thank God it's anyday". A day off would be foreign for them because they have six of them. That's another story.
This is Friday. I know because a calendar is close to this computer. The morning paper also carries the date.. Believe you me we seniors need all the help we can get. I must admit at this juncture I am in to TGIA. I am thankful it is another day God has given me. "This is the day that the Lord has made. I will rejoice and be glad in it." How about squeezing everything out of this beautiful day? We have no promise of tomorrow. At least not here.
