First Baptist, Rockport, has a note-burning this afternoon. It will symbolize a milestone for the church. The debt on our new church plant will be paid. A journey to this point covers many years and thousands of gifts. It goes back almost thirty years when land was purchased for a new location. Land like that would not be available today. Finally, a time came when it appeared possible to build. A campaign was held and pledges were made. People honored their pledges and the progress began. A second campaign followed the first. Again, hundreds of people gave to the Lord through their extra commitments. No gift was small. Some were sacrificial. No new buildings would be built until we were once again debt free. Under great leadership, and seeking God's Will, the debt is paid. Now the church seeks direction for the next step.
Another debt was paid long ago. It was for our sin. Jesus made the pledge to go to the cross, although he was God's Son and owned everything. His debt payment is beyond imagination. Blood was spilt. Al cross cost Him His life. He died. But death did not defeat Him and His resurrection reminds us the debt was paid. So, we celebrate a "note-burning" each time we gather to worship. Thank God! THE DEBT IS PAID.
