Sunday evening after church several of us were practicing our lines for the Easter Pageant. I had noticed that Jennifer Edwards, who is playing the part of Mary Magdalene, had as her first two words, "Trust Me". I kidded with her and said she ought to get that Richard Nixon look and wave a vee with her fingers when she says her lines. I was kidding! She did it! This High School Spanish teacher and debate coach did it! I laughed so hard I almost cried. Most of the choir members missed it. TRUST ME! Who can you trust? Mary Magdalene? Later in the drama Mary indicates Peter did not trust her words that Jesus had risen. He raced to the tomb to see for himself if it was so. Could one trust Mary Magdalene for the facts?
Today I fertilized the yard. It has been months since we had significant rain, but Bill Vessey, one of our TV weathermen, said that rain was coming later this week. I remember when Vessey was a sports announcer. Can I trust him? I did, and have a yard sprinkled with fertilizer to prove it. TRUST ME! The President is telling plans to pull us from the depths of recession. Millions are out of work. Banks are closing. Many, like myself, have seen years of retirement investment fade into nothing. Trust Me? Most of us really cannot say at this point we do.
Who, then, do we trust?. If not Mary M, and the weatherman, and the President, who can we put total trust in for the total truth? You guessed it! The Son of God. The Savior. The One who said....."Let not your heart be troubled. You believe in God, believe also in me. In my Father's house are many mansions. If it were not so I would have told you...." (John 14:1) We can trust Him more than family, or pastor, or best friend, or teacher, or counselor. They may all mean to be trustworthy, but each is human and each is sometimes wrong. Jesus never is. His Word is trustworthy. His promises are trustworthy. You can't beat that. TRUST HIM!
