Jesus died yesterday. He had to be off the cross by six o'clock for it would soon be the Jewish sabbath. He had breathed His last, but just to be sure he was dead, a soldier plunged his spear into the side of the Lord. Blood and water gushed forth. Body disposal for those crucified was a problem, for they were usually societal outcasts. Two men of some reputation came forward. The disciples were not there. How sad. These two men were Joseph, a rich man from nearby Arimethea, and a friend of Jesus; and Nicodemus, who first came to Jesus under cover of darkness, but now steps out openly and bravely to retrieve the body. These two remove Jesus' body and take him to a new tomb, hewn out of stone, and obviously prepared for Joseph. What a wonderful gift from this man to our Lord. He won't need it very long. Just a few hours!
Where is the Spirit of Jesus during that time his body was dead? Many have speculated. There are several theories. None of us really know. It really doesn't matter how we answer. What is of eternal importance is the event of TOMORROW!
