The young man was outfitted with a green safety vest. He was regulating the vehicles coming in and going out of the county dump. They weigh your vehicle going in, and again coming out, and you pay by the pound. I was in the line with oak leaves and some brush in my pick-up. I received a signal to come on. I received a yell to stop. Another to back up. Then to go. Back in the army. I found a spot and dumped the load. Back to the scales I was waved to a halt then forward. I was given a signal to pull over to the side while an assistant would come tell me the charge. I was pulling over but it didn't appear that way to green vest. More yelling and waving. Finally a kindly gentleman came and gave me my ticket for $1.50, and I left Fort Aransas. It really didn't upset me. Takes more than that these days, but I wondered if the aspirations of that young man are higher than the county dump. Let's face it, there's not a lot of leadership really involved in what was happening there. We have many places and jobs where leadership can be exerted. Those places have to be earned. Maybe he is heading to be a county commissioner or judge. That would be great. Hopefully his style will find a higher place than the county dump.
