Always Have A Song Ready

We went to Nixon for a wonderful family time. Our son, Lee, and stepdaughter came from Fort Worth. Lee's birthday was Friday. For Mother's Day we attended First United Methodist in Nixon where our kids go. First Baptist really turned them off. The folks at the Methodist church are super friendly. They do it before and after the services. Makes you really feel welcome. Our daughter, Laura, sings in the choir. I was enjoying the service....until a note was slipped to me. It was from my daughter. "The choir director wants you to sing during the offertory at the end of the sermon. I will sing with you if you would like.... Laura." Now the service attention has changed a bit. I had been handed one hymnal and was thumbing through another. I was checking high notes. "E" and I don't get along well anymore. Below "C" doesn't either. Well, I think the pastor spoke about the vine and branches and how we should stay close to the roots to produce. Ann was now showing me hymns. We couldn't communicate for we were on the second row. My nods to her were the kind you see pitchers make to catchers. I think they call it "shaking off the sign". I was busy shaking off hymns, as I tried to find something singable and comfortable. Bottom line is that Laura and I sang a duet at church. She didn't know what I was singing until I stepped to the mike. She had never sung the hymn before. She let me sing the verse and she joined in on the chorus. The folks afterward were more than gracious. I wanted to tell them..."You ought to hear us when we practice!..." but I didn't. Anyway, my suggestion for the day is "Always have a song ready". You never know........
