No entity but the military could come up with a name like that. Soldiers soon gave it the practical name of HUMVEE. It was a replacement for the Jeep, plus a lot more. It is fifteen feet long and seven feet wide. It weighs 5200 pounds and has carried everything from men to missiles into battle. The HUMVEE got it's full disclosure during Desert Storm. It was a roaring success. A movie star, now the governor of California, wanted one badly. He asked AMG to build him a civilian version. They did and others wanted one of these monsters, for whatever. It soon was called the HUMMER. Now, like Arnold Swarzenegger's California, HUMMER is bankrupt and closing it's doors. They were a novelty vehicle. Intimidating? Yes. Comfortable? No. Practical? Not really. None of those things matter when people with the where-with-all want something. Some have been used as ambulances. Others have been fire-fighting machines. Most have simply been, well, HUMMERS.
BIG is out. SMALL is in. The reformed General Motors is preparing to build subcompact cars. When your shares are worth less than $1.00 and expected to go to ZERO it is time to act. (past-time perhaps?). The car, will be called SPARK. It will be a couple of years before we see if the Spark can create a fire. Does anyone remember Sears selling a small car? VW has been around since before World War II.
Chariots were the earliest fighting vehicles. When Pharaoh discovered the children of Israel had left he mobilized his army and took off with 600 of the best chariots, along with all the other chariots that could roll.. He was out in front in his customized HUMVEE chariot. It was a frightening scene for the people of Israel! They began to say to Moses, "What have you done to us by bringing us out of Egypt?" Moses simply replied, "Stand firm and you will see the deliverance the Lord will bring you today." What a scene it was! That charioted, invincible army plowed into the dry bed of the sea. Their wheels started coming off and the road was blocked. God closed the sea and ...."Not one of them survived." (Exodus 14:28) Now let me ask you: Had you rather have 600 HUMVEES with full armament, and led by a man who has no respect for God???; or be on foot and appear in a hopeless situation, but knowing God is with you? I know my choice.
