"Some wandered in desert wastelands, finding no way to a city where they could settle. They were hungry and thirsty and their lives ebbed away. Then they cried out to the Lord in their trouble, and He delivered them from their distress. He led them by a straight way to a city where they could settle. Let them give thanks to the Lord for his unfailing love and His wonderful deeds for men." Psalm 107:4-8
I still travel with maps. My wife can attest that I have always been challenged by little roads that appear to be "shortcuts". Sometimes they are. Often they are not. Today our kids have these instruments mounted in their vehicles telling them exactly the way to go from one point to another. It estimates their travel time down to the minute. No more getting lost on roads that are unfamiliar. One can find a spot on the surface of a bay where an underwater reef is located without any other help at all. Amazing instruments.
I have a Book lying near me. It is amazing. It's Author has mapped out, for those who read it, the best and straightest way to go in life. It can lead us to a place where we can settle and find food and water and deliverance. It is a strange quirk of human nature that we continue to seek out our own roads and trails and paths. They often lead us to places we don't really want to go. In our distress we seek help. How much better to simply be led by a straight way. God's way is always best.
"He delivered them from their distress. He led them by a straight way to a city where they could settle."
I saw a young transient one day sitting on the steps of a public library. Inside was all the information and direction one could possibly need to find their way in life. There were even job opportunities listed of all kinds. This young man was reading.....a comic book. He would go from those steps back to digging in garbage cans and sleeping in the park next to the library. A wealth of guidance was as close as the front doors, but he would miss it all. Know anyone doing that? Ever been there? God's way is always close by. You will know it when you see it because it is straight.
