The Duprie's brought their two cats to their new home in Goliad Sunday. One of them, Samson, is certainly ill-named. He is a wimp. A scaredy cat! He spent days on their roof after moving to Nixon last year. So he was scared all over again in this move.
Laura drove the nine miles into town Monday to pick up Emily and Dempsey after their first day in school. They both had a good day. They went to the grocery store before heading back to their ranch house home in the country. Laura told the kids she thought she heard a cat. Dempsey claimed it was him. Calvin was also blamed. When they arrived home Laura heard it again. She knew it was a cat. They began to search and discovered the frantic Samson on top of the spare tire underneath the car. The poor cat had ridden more than twenty miles under the car with gravel, road noise, and the works. Cats don't like riding to start with. He has survived. Eight lives remaining. He could use a cat psychiatrist. Will Samson hide there again? I doubt that very much.
He really made a bad and dangerous choice. His namesake, the one in the Bible, also was gifted at making bad choices. He probably would have swapped places with Samson the cat. A single bad choice like shearing one's hair, or riding a spare tire can have awful consequences.
