Incarceration must be an unpleasant experience, though it seems some do every thing possible to return to a prison or jail. Not being any kind of expert on the subject I am simply a bit confused this morning by things read:
INS - Kenneth Ireland spent twenty years in prison for a crime he didn't commit. DNA tests have recently proven he could not have done it, so a Connecticut judge had him released. He had not seen his own face clearly in a mirror since nineteen. His first reaction, "Who's that old guy?". How can our system allow such a thing to happen? His comment: " You put a certain amount of faith in the system. I felt I was let down"
OUTS - Abdel Baset al-Megrahi, the only man convicted for involvement in the bomb explosion of a Pan Am jet over Scotland, was released from prison after serving eight years, so he could return to Libya. He has prostate cancer. He was tried and held in Scotland. Officials said they were "bound by Scottish values to release him" since he is expected to live only a few months. Two-hundred seventy persons died in that plane explosion in 1988. No one is now in prison for this crime.
INS - Phil Spector, a legend in his field of rock music , is in prison for the second degree murder of an actress, Lana Clarkson. He is not pleased with his prison and has petitioned for something better. It is the same one housing Charles Manson and Sirhan Sirhan. His wife also has to drive 800 miles round trip to see him. Will he be given better facilities? Take your guess.
OUTS - The California Senate approved cutting their inmate population by 27,000 by allowing early releases, and for many no prison time at all. It would cut their prison budget by $1.2 billion. Some say this could cause a threat to public safety.
INS - Paul, the Apostle of Jesus Christ, imprisoned numerous times without a trial. He found himself bound and guarded. He was even flogged and beaten in unfair settings. Paul made every prison cell a church. His voice sang and spoke praises to God while amazed prisoners could not understand his indifference to the place. On one occasion he even led a jailer and his family to the Lord.
