SWINE FLU CLOSER TO HOME

I will move from the birds to another subject, the swine flu. A few weeks ago, Lee, our son came down with the swine flu while visiting us here in Rockport. It was a "mild" case, if there is such a thing. It wasn't mild in Lee's eyes, and left him missing work for almost a week. What is called "the second wave" is now beginning to come. The flu serum is behind it instead of ahead of it. Our granddaughter, Emily, nine, was diagnosed yesterday. Her family lives in Goliad. This morning Laura called to tell us Dempsey, 14, now has it. She is concerned about Calvin, who is two, and has been exposed every way possible to older siblings. We are also concerned about the parents, James and Laura. The two sick ones are already on Tamiflu. There is
nothing for the others to take. We will have to wait and see just how affected they are.

Having been to hospitals every day but one this week, I have seen a lot of folks who were sick with something. Signs in ER waiting rooms discourage folks from coming to ER with the flu. Instead they are to see a doctor, get medicine, and go home. Obviously, more critical cases must be hospitalized. Swine flu has been predicted to be a pandemic. It already is as far as our family is concerned. Take care. Wash your hands often. Avoid crowds. Hope to get the flu shot that is awaited. I already have had my flu shot, but not the one for this swine flu.
