A friend e-mailed me an article called, "Did You Know"?. It was a presentation to Sony's executive meeting. Some of the info in this presentation is absolutely mind-boggling. One tidbit really caught my attention. Today there are 540,000 words in the English language! That is FIVE TIMES more than in the days of Shakespeare! Think about that. Our English language is growing by leaps and bounds!
Had you recognized you were seeing words you did not understand or had never heard? I had seen it in some crossword puzzles. Here are some new ones for me from "Webster's New Dictionary Of The English Language": factotum, flibbertigibbet, glycogen, gorp, haploid, inchoate, microminiaturization....( use that in your conversation this week. it will really orotund your friends).
How many words do you know? Probably a lot more than you think. If you know 540,000 don't bother to communicate with me. I would be absolutely taciturn. Of all the words you know what are the most important...... above all others? I would choose three...... GOD..... LOVE.... FAMILY. In those three words would be the summation of life. God would include Father, Son, and Holy Spirit. Love would include family, friend, foe, creation, music, church, friends, God, life, etc. Family would include kin, friends, all created beings, fellow Believers, etc. These three words link together. They are tied by the most important relationship.... that is the one with God through Jesus Christ.
I hope I am never limited to three words, but that often happens and could be my lot. If it is, then remember those three are my favorites from the 540,000. God......Love...... Family.
