I ate wild turkey last year.
It wasn't bad at all,
but even with dressing and gravy
it wasn't a Butterball!
The occasion was Thanksgiving;
and everyone had a bite,
for no one had eaten wild turkey.
The "faces" kids made were a sight.
My thoughts went back to the first day
when Pilgrims and Indians came
together to feast on wild turkey,
(giving a gobbler his name)?
This week most will feast on a turkey.
Millions of them have "expired".
The cooks in crowded, hot kitchens
are foot-sore, red-faced, and tired!
That's what we do at Thanksgiving.
Eat BIG, then watch a ball game.
It's quite easy to forget the purpose,
forgetting to call on His Name.
Happy Thanksgiving!
Dale
