COLORADO DEER HUNT - SORTA'

I had always wanted to hunt deer or elk in Colorado. Never did work it out. Hunting in the snow seemed like a great experience. Well, this week the SNOW came to me. We were in the center of Texas at Richland Springs hunting. Friday morning as we headed for our stands it was 29 and overcast. Snow had already been falling. It kept on coming down and I found an open window had let the white stuff in my blind. It was dry and wiped off the seat easily. What fun to peer out, looking for a deer in the snow! Sure enough, they came. I didn't fire a round but enjoyed watching these agile creatures play. I think they enjoyed it as much as me. The NEXT morning, Saturday, the skies had cleared. Temperature had plummeted to 19! That was not as much fun as snow, but it was a challenge. A Colorado morning.... in Texas!

Well, the deer are all safe. I never saw the big one I wanted. I did get to watch a big bobcat stalking birds in the tall, brown grasses. That was a neat experience. Like me, the bobcat scored a zero.

Why do folks subject themselves to hours of miserable cold, wind, heat, rain, sun, no shower, dirty clothes, bathroomless moments, cold food, hard beds, etc.? As the little kid used to say in one of Bill Cosby's routines...."I dun know!." I dun know either, but I will do it again when and if I recover from this trip.

Meanwhile back at home Ann was suffering from the cold because of a fancy new thermostat yours truly bought. You can program it for heat or cold, changing the temps anytime. It is great...except we don't know how to program it! The guy who put it in walked away. He said he couldn't do it. So, she was freezing cold and hot under the collar at the same time. I am glad I was far away in the Colorado cold.
