Don't tell me you don't know where Garden City, Texas, is? How could you miss it! Garden City is at the intersection of State Highway 158 and Ranch Road 33. It is the County Seat of Glasscock County. Never mind that it was supposed to be named Gardner City after the founder. (Washington officials misspelled it when they approved the Post Office). They built a courthouse in 1893. It was two-story. Lower floor was for court. Second floor was the jail. They built a larger court house in 1910 but continued to use the old jail.....well, sort of. Once it went seven years without a customer. A mesquite tree grew up and blocked the entrance!. In 2000 the population was 293.
Today those folks are bursting with pride for their football team won the State Championship this last week in Six-Man, 1A Division. It wasn't an easy win. Their worthy opponent, Strawn, scored EIGHTY-EIGHT points on their rather porous defense. However, Garden City kicked their offense up a notch and managed to put ONE HUNDRED TWENTY-TWO points on the scoreboard. (Probably not all of them because a scoreboard couldn't handle that many points.)
That's six-man football, Texas style. You have to sympathize with poor Strawn. They scored 88 points and lost by thirty-four points! The Cowboys couldn't score in four downs from the one yard line! Maybe they need to check with the coach from Garden City to get his secret.
