You will have many opportunities in the next few days to hear the wonderful music of Christmas. Sunday morning the Handbell Choir at First Baptist, Rockport, will be playing in the foyer of the church, and later for the worship service. The church choir and drama team will be bringing music and story on Saturday evening and Sunday morning, December 19-20. Other churches will make their Christmas offerings of music during December.
I remember the days when borrowed bathrobes dressed the shepherds and wisemen. An out- of- tune piano would match some out-of-tune singer. A cedar tree would be in the corner of our little country church, decorated with popcorn, icycles, christmas tree balls of silver and red, and a white sheet to cover the base. There were no lights for we did not have electricity in the building. Gas lamps hung along the walls and a big wood-burning stove sat in the aisle.Primitive? Yes, but that was the thirties and early forties, and many conveniences were still missing. Fruit and candy would be given to all the children. We would go home perfectly convinced this was the greatest Christmas ever. It may have been.
Memories of Christmas. They are joyful and sad. They are that which should be passed on to children and grands. I have many wonderful memories of this season. I bet you do too.
