Yesterday was hot! It was a good afternoon to be in a shade, or pool, or movie. Instead, those nine kids from Rockport, along with four adults chose to walk the streets of Taft, Texas, handing out literally HUNDREDS of fliers inviting kids to Vacation Bible School July 18-23, as well as to the registration Friday evening at 6:30.They came IN tired and sweaty and hungry. The Pizza Hut in Sinton took care of two of those problems. It was buffet night. The Hut definitely lost money!
We had a few snags to break through. Taft has a vendor law we got caught up in. We were grouped in with anyone selling pinatas, or whatever, from door to door! We were selling nothing. It is the old story that innocent, helpful people get punished by the laws protecting folks from door-to-door traveling salesmen. There was an EIGHTY DOLLAR fee to get to invite kids to Bible School! Politics aside, the job was done. This will be the only Vacation Bible School in town this summer so we want the kids to know about it and come. Rockport leaders will make it happen for us. For that we are MOST grateful.
Rains threaten to ruin the prettiest crops of grain, cotton, and corn we have seen for many years. We want no more rain right now but a lot is predicted for the week. If it comes every one will simply deal with it. Oklahoma City is flooded. Who would have imagined that? Tornadoes YES, but not floods.
Tar balls are rolling in along our Texas coast. That is to be expected. BP is doling out billions for their costly mistakes. Money doesn't replace some things lost. Nothing will.
