Monday evening Ann and I attended the Young Life banquet and fund raiser at Paws and Taws. The place was FILLED with adults and Young Lifers. They served a meal followed by some fun and inspiration. Finally, a plea to help the organization financially. It was great to hear the local group has a hundred plus kids involved. Lives are being re-directed and changed. Christian witness is taking place on campus. City leaders were there, from the Editor to the Head Football Coach. They were even sponsoring tables!
The Area Director is Shane Sampson. He is doing a great work in impacting kids for a life of meaning and purpose. One of his "boys", Todd Farnsworth, gave a wonderful testimony of how he has taken Young Life to the High School campus at San Marcos. I came away feeling a boost in my spirits and hope for our kids. These kinds of events don't usually make the pages of a paper but they are happening all around. I am grateful for each person who pours energy and financial help into groups like Young Life. Here is their Mission Statement:
Our mission is to introduce teenagers to Jesus Christ and help them grow in their faith. We accomplish our purpose by praying for young people, going where kids are, and building personal relationships with them. We win the right to be heard by stepping into their lives and developing true friendships with them through Contact Work, Club, Camp, Campaigners, and Church."
Can't beat that!
