If you haven't been aware of an increased presence of our local men in blue you just haven't started on the end of the bypass driving toward Corpus. I saw THREE, count them...THREE of our distinctive cars with lights flashing. They were handing out "welcome to Rockport" certificates to whoever. I don't have a gripe. They only do it to those who are pushing the limits or simply texting down the highway. Any of us can get stopped if we unfocus the dangerous job of guiding a two-ton vehicle down the road.
What do you say when you get stopped? Better yet, what might the policeman say? Here are some statements taken from the car videos of South Carolina state troopers:
1. "You know, stop lights don't come any redder than the one you just went through."
2. "Relax, the handcuffs are tight because they're new. They'll stretch after you wear them awhile."
3. " If you run you'll only go to jail tired."
4. " You don't know how fast you were going? I guess that means I can write anything I want to on the ticket. Huh?"
5. "Warning! You want a warning? O.K., I'm warning you not to do that again or I'll give you another ticket!"
6. "I'm glad to hear that the Chief of Police is a personal friend of yours. So you know someone who can post your bail."
7. (This one was risky) "You didn't think we give pretty women tickets? You're right, we don't. Sign here."
There you have it. Responses to our pleas. Better not to get stopped, please!
