It began in the Fall of 1961 when I came to lead the music in a revival. The following Spring I would be back as minister of music/education/youth. Ann and I would return in 1985 as Pastor/Wife. We would once again join up with the church about a year and a half ago; first as supply preacher, then as interim.
This is a bit unusual for one person to be called to the same church three times over the years. Each ministry was different from the others. Each had it's unique challenges and opportunities. I will cherish the memories of each and all of them.
Sunday evening at the High School auditorium I will bring the message for Baccalaureate. They will not be aware of any of these things. They will just be interested in my finishing up briefly so they can take pictures in their green robes! I understand that. I have been there.
So, this dinosaur from another age and time will stand to say the usual greetings and congrats, then seek to leave a word or two of inspiration. My subject is "Excuses". I will get a standing ovation only if I call on them to sing the National Anthem and applaud as they sing! That's okay. Someone might remember something said. Maybe even me. That would be great.
Tomorrow, Monday, is Memorial Day. I hope we ALL will remember that, and those who have served and are serving. Many paid the full sacrifice of service. Veteran hospitals are filled today with broken bodies and minds. Families anxiously await word from sons and daughters serving in dangerous far away places. They are the ones we should stand and applaud for. God bless America! God bless each service person and their families.
