In politics "the majority rules". One vote is as good as ten thousand if it makes a majority. That is WISELY not so in church issues. I salute our leadership for wanting more than a majority to decide whether or not to change the time for services. This is a big issue for many of our members. Although it was to be a trial, most figured it would become permanent. We do not need or want any such issue to become divisive in the Fellowship. Our Enemy will use anything He can to divide and disrupt when the work against Him is going well.
This was not a moral issue or really a big deal. It was heading that way, however. Wisdom has prevailed so we move forward in the Kingdom's work.
In Taft the church called a pastor. Chuck Smith will begin June 1. I welcome him with open arms. Chuck did not receive a unanimous vote in a secret ballot. There were six who voted against his coming. That is a wonderful privilege our system allows. No preacher is assigned to come, like it or not. On the other hand it means a person begins ministry without a full support of all. That does not have to be. We can move our support to the greater cause of the ministry of the church in that community. That is the best thing for each one to do. God's work should be far more important than any personal issues.
These are perilous times. They call for unanimity among Believers beyond smaller issues.
