Jim Denison tipped me off through his BLOG on God Issues. I read it religiously. (That's what we should do with religious writings).
In today's writing he tells us of Harold Camping's predictions that Judgment Day is May 21. This is no idle plucking of a date from the calendar, but scientific stuff based on carbon dating; tree rings; when Noah loaded the Ark; and a bit of Scripture. He has a radio program called "Family Radio Worldwide", and they have spent three millions dollars on advertising to warn us all of May 21, 2011.
What if he is right? What if this man with no theological training hit on the date? First of all, he would be smarter than Jesus, which I seriously doubt. Put that aside. We do not know when the Lord will return. That is God's little secret. We speculate about all the details, but will not have a chance to say, "I told you so"!
But.....let's just imagine for a moment that Brother Camping hit it on target. We have FIFTEEN full days left here--- and judgement. How would you use those days and nights? Fifteen days is a long time if you are recuperating in a hospital or waiting for surgery. It is a terribly long time if you are waiting for the visit of a dear friend or family member. It is not so long if we are waiting for the beginning of eternity.
I know the things we might say humorously, but if we REALLY believed that was all the time left before judgment it would be a different matter.
My first impression is to warn. Let everyone I know, and do not know, hear about it so they can prepare. They would laugh or be offended. I would get ready for insults like Noah dealt with before the flood waters came to the Ark. Money becomes worthless with only fifteen days left, unless it is used like Brother Camping is using it.
I have my own prediction. He will come, not when a bill- board proclaims it, but like a thief in the dead of night. Then it is too late to warn.
What would YOU do with fifteen days to go before ETERNITY?
