Now the news reports make it appear our forces raided an Islamic family gathering, and only one person had a weapon. I don't believe a word of it. Arms are not always rifles and pistols. These folks were armed to the teeth. Their extremist women will blow themselves apart just as quickly as any man. So will the children. This was an act of combat. Have we forgotten we are at war? Can you who remember, imagine our Marines on Iwo shouting into caves, "We are coming in. Don't find a rifle or we will have to shoot you!". We didn't do that at all. A Marine risking his life would come to the mouth of a cave and let go with a burst of flames. It was brutal, but it was war. Equal brutality came from the enemy side. It is a shame to see political jargon from both sides come into play over such a critical matter. I fault both parties for this inexcusable action. None of them leaped into the unknown from helicopters. None of them faced an enemy that would gladly kill each one if given a chance.
This was an heroic action after the "Hitler" of this movement. It was war, and still is. There is no meeting on the deck of a carrier to sign a surrender. These violent, evil people are not through with their grand schemes. The war against terrorism is not nearly over. It will most likely find it's way to our shores again.
As I visited this week with the mother of a Seal who has just returned from that area, she told me they were asking her son about what they had been doing, etc. He would say nothing. Finally, after another question he looked at his mom and said, "Mom, if I told you, then I would have to kill you.". After that there was no more questions.
We don't really need to know all of what happened. We don't need to see a bullet hole in the head of Bin Laden. A daring mission was carried out and can be called successful. Maybe one of those Seals needs to make that same comment to a nosy reporter.
