WHAT STORM WOULD YOU PREFER?

You,ve had a look at the big ones the last several months, hurricanes and tornadoes. Which one would you rather deal with? Neither I would imagine. For hurricanes we have greater warning time. That was not always the case. Even with warnings we can be fooled. A hurricane is thought of as a straight wind that shifts direction when the eye passes. They also spawn tornadoes which do much damage. Hurricanes can leave total devastation.

Tornadoes give little warning. I know the weather guys are looking at all the red and finding possible twisters in them, but they can also miss a call. Not everyone is sitting around watching The Weather Channel. In a matter of minutes there can be a life and death situation. They are only a mile or less in width however. If you are outside that zone you are okay...unless hail the size of softballs come falling. That can kill you.

How about a volcano? A safe place to get away from those would be Iceland? Wrong? What about Mount St Helens, or Yellowstone? Wrong! A volcano gives little warning and can be a powerful deadly force. Ashes travel for hundreds of miles in the air.

Well then maybe the least risk would be with a flood? You ever seen those folks hanging to tree limbs or riding a house down a torrent of water? Floods can and are destructive and dangerous.

How about a good old-fashioned thunder and lightning show? Out on the open water? You want to discover fear, that will bring some. No, thanks.

An earthquake? How much warning comes with that? Where do you hide as buildings shake and tumble and the ground splits open with cracks to the center of the earth?

How about a tsunami? You are enjoying a warm dip in the ocean and suddenly a massive wave appears on the horizon as tall as a nine-story building? You have absolutely NO CHANCE of survival. You prefer a tsunami?

That's enough! I am shaking the computer desk and it is blue skies outside. The truth is that nature has some powerful instruments. They are loosed when conditions become favorable. They have no respect for people, property, or play. They can be harmless or deadly. They can come in the noon day or at midnight. Pretty good idea to "be prepared" isn't it. Prepared for life and prepared for eternity. Preparing for eternity is actually a good preparation for life.
